How can I be seen by Mr Phaltankar at Manchester Knee Clinic?

For patients with private medical insurance and self funding patients, a GP referral letter is not required. Patients with private medical insurance are advised to contact their insurance company to get authorisation prior to consultation. NHS patients need to be referred by their GP via eRS (electronic Referral System).

Where can I be seen for my consultation?

You can be seen at the Circle Health Group Hospitals (the Highfield Hospital, Rochdale and Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle) or Ramsay Hospitals (Oaklands Hospital, Salford and Euxton Hall Hospital, Chorley).

How quickly can I be seen?

For patients with private medical insurance and self funding patients, clinic appointment can be arranged within a week. Please ring the practice manager on 0161 7946510 who will assist you to get yourself booked in as per your convenience. If you would like to be seen in one of the Circle Health Group hospitals (the Highfield Hospital or Alexandra Hospital), you can use the easy online booking service by visiting the hospital website.

How quickly can I have investigations?

X-rays can be performed on the day of the consultation. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan can be organised within a few days following your consultation.

Where can I have physiotherapy, if needed?

This can be arranged at a physiotherapy clinic near your home or at the hospital where you are having the out patient consultation. If you are already undergoing physiotherapy, we encourage you to continue the physiotherapy treatment with your physiotherapists.

Where can I have my hip replacement, knee replacement or other hip/knee surgery?

Surgery can be undertaken at the Circle Health Group Hospitals (the Highfield Hospital, Rochdale and Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle) or Ramsay Hospitals (Oaklands Hospital, Salford and Euxton Hall Hospital, Chorley).

Do I need private health insurance to be seen by Manchester Knee Clinic?

We welcome both privately insured as well as self funding patients. You can self pay for your outpatient consultation as well as our full range of services hip replacement and knee replacement. If you are self funding, we can arrange for package price for surgery to be provided by self pay office at the hospital.

You will need to check with your private medical insurance provider regarding cover for consultation, investigation and surgery.

How can I find out about the cost of the treatment?

Mr Phaltankar is a fee assured consultant with all major private medical insurance providers and charges within the benefit limits of the insurance companies. This ensures that you do not encounter a short fall. For self funding patients, our fees are £200 for initial consultation and £150 for follow up consultation. What happens after I have had a surgical procedure?

Knee arthroscopy (key hole surgery) and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery is done as day case procedures where you can go home the same day. Following hip replacement or knee replacement surgery you are usually discharged the next day after ensuring that you are comfortable and mobilising safely. At the time of discharge a follow-up appointment will be arranged for you. In case of any concerns, you can contact the hospital ward for advice and support.
